Welcome

The intent of this website is to have a place for personal projects and interests to share. The title "Gray Havens" was drawn from the Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King. It is the harbor where one departs from Middle Earth on a voyage to the undying lands. I like to think of it in a symbolic sense of the spiritual journey we are all given the opportunity to undertake, though less dramatically, in our everyday lives to see the undying aspect of the world. To paraphrase  Gandolf, "It's not the time you are given that is important. It is what you do with the time you have."

The LORD bless you and keep you: The LORD make his face to shine upon you, and be gracious to you: The LORD lift up his countenance upon you, and give you peace. (Numbers 6:24-26 RSV)

The simple beauty of this blessing has always struck me. That this prayer has been in existance for 2,400 years has deepened my love of it. It was featured in a recent episode of the PBS show NOVA. It was found inscribed on a finger sized silver scroll that was dated to around 600 B.C..
